This is the place to talk Autochromes!
My enthusiasm for the images and the re-discovery of the actual process have been consuming my free time for almost 2 years now.
Please forgive the layout of the site as it will remain a work in progress while I organise my notes and learn to program html. Most people ask if it is possible to re-create the process. As a friend of mine said "No living person has been able to reproduce the process". After my initial research I truly believe it is - but time will tell!
I have included some links that will start you off:
My description of How an Autochrome is made.
There is a very good description of the composition of an Autochrome. (Keep in mind the there is one statement in the text which my research cannot verify. The author has told me that the use of purpurin dye was an opinion only... Jim Scrugg's Website.
The Second link is Ilford's Website. You will find some excellent examples here and a dowloadable 2003 Autochrome Calendar.
